Description:
Why do the American kids not get taught real finances? Yes they get taught how to balance a checkbook, and fill out the almighty tax forms... They do not get a REAL education in taking care of their finances. We are on the verge of a horrendous depression (read Robert Kyosaki's Rich Dad Prophecies) and our citizens need to know how to build a future for themselves. People like Suze Orman teach how to care for yourself financially on a consumer level and Robert Kyosaki can show you how to maintain a financial future for retirement. Remember when the employer had pension plans? When President Ford signed ERISA into law our financial futures became very shaky for the common person. When the burden of retirement shifted to the employee and we stopped having the same employer for a career, our retirement came into peril. Teach our children to fend for themselves, please!
Yes, it would be great to have personal financial management in the curriculum, but the parents' examples are usually very poor. By following the herd and buying what they cannot afford through ridiculous credit options, most people are living paycheck to paycheck with nothing left over. Saving has been a nasty word with all of the wonderful material objects to buy and show off to the friends. Instant gratification is where our culture is right now and it will take a while to change the behavior. Being prudent with your money is the only way to get ahead and this has to reinforced from an early age by setting an example.
First i would just like them to teach mine how to add and subtract. she is in the fourth grade, i have begged them to get her extra help they have not.
This should definitely be taught in school and they should start it as early as possible.
I just saw a program about how many people don't realize how to budget or handle money when they grow up. Randy H's petition is a good idea. How to manage money should be taught in school so kids know when the grow up the danger of debt and the importance of saving.
they need to get back to really educatting our kids in all areas, not just finances. the same could be said for history, sex ed and the classics...wouldn't they be better off with a well-rounded renaissance education teaching many topics in many areas than the cut & dry bought systems they're feeding our kids now.
lJO* Yeah i agree i never got taught how to use finances in school and keep your finaces under control for the most part my parents have had to help me out with that and i believe everyone would benefit. It should compulsary aswell. And not just in america , places like england , europe , africa , japan ect.
Kane... we do not really teach much in health anymore. what you and I were taught is no longer there.
It is another issue that I need to post.
I didn't even get the checkbook and tax forms training. This is so important to learn too it seems like a no brainer. Why don't schools teach them this.
