Description:

A Dark Superman? The Dark Knight's recent success has convinced WB the next pack of superhero movies should have the same brooding tone. The evil side to characters is now the key to unlocking some of their DC properties. "We're going to try to go dark to the extent that the characters allow it," Group Pres. Robinov says. "That goes for the company's Superman franchise as well."
Are we ready for this?
Superman does NOT have a "dark side." He is the superhero that is very much like Christ - just look at the symbolism in "Superman Returns" - when he pushes the Kryptonite-laden continent into space and falls to Earth in a crucifixion pose. It's the ultimate act of self-sacrifice.
But think of it...Christ...Kal-el...sent from far away, an only son, to save mankind? I could see a movie with a dark, brooding theme as long as it's some EXTERNAL influence, like Red Kryptonite...or perhaps he has to make a choice, and neither one is a good option, perhaps having a moral consequence he can't avoid and has to deal with it.
Otherwise no...it's like saying Christ has a "dark side" to him. In the 1977 movie the writers really messed up when they had him sleep with Lois. But you can do a Dark Knight-like movie without having Superman himself with a dark side.
The only way I could see it working at all is to have him act out on it through Clark perhaps trying to fit in and the need to be human and "normal." With all those powers, he's still alone in the world, it's kind of sad. That was sorta tackled in the Smallville series when Clark was wearing the red kryptonite ring, though.
It would definitely be a difficult movie to write, but if done correctly has a lot of potential. Just don't tread on Superman's 70-yr history of being the most virtuous man in the world. It's so at the core of his being much like Peter Parker's guilt over Uncle Ben's death or the Hulk's rage.
i think supes have a dark side
Superman is the one we aspire to be and Batman is the one living on the darker side of humanity. Superman needs to be the iluminating side, the one we hope to become he always needs to make the correct choice even if is the hardest, and that make's him interesting.
yes i do agree with the person befor me to i would love to see that in the big screen i would love to see the death and return series of super man on the big screen that would be amazeing to see and so few ppl know about it lol i bet there arent alot of people out there that even knows that doomsday kills super man i would love to see how hollywood and dc comics put there heads together to do the death and return of super man wow my mind is raseing already and thank you again for your time have a great day bye
you every body has a dark side to them some can just controll it better but in all reality it was actually super boy who had a wild side out of the super man comics and cartoons ive always wanted to see super boy and super man in the moveis and tv showes together the closest any show has got was smallville with the red kryptonyt whitch makes him act bad or gives him the bad guy or bad boy image and action the whole im the man aspect of things and also lets the viewers see his real abilitys with the red kryptonyt it inhances all of his abilities but is also slowly killing him at the same time so its a crazy twist on things but it works i really like how they depict it in smallville i would so love to see a good and bad superman on the big screen a chapter of his life where he struggels in the chosies of right and wrong if you need some ideas on a movie you can get in touch with me at superwahoo@hotmail.com by the way im a huge super man fanatic what can i say he was my child hood hero i wanted to be him when i was a kid and if there is ever an opening in a movie and you want an actor for superman or super boy i am 21 and would love to audition like i said you can reach me at superwahoo@hotmail.com thank you for you time and have a great day
Batman is the Dark Knight, I was glad that they finally realised exactly who Batman was.
Superman, embodies all that is good in people, yes he has a dark side, everyone does.
But he deals with it in his own way, he doesn't go after people, and he doesn't kill.. how can you be dark if you don't kill..?
Superman was created to give hope. Keep him as he is.
And yes I would love to see him fight Doomsday.. the way it was in the comic book! Not the cheap version they did in the cartoon version.. that ruined it for me. It cheapened it.
No to a Dark Superman.
That was the Eradicator's job.
Going Dark for Batman, it was suprising it was done, but on the same note, expected for the character.
Batman cares and will die for Gothem, but, he was never known as the Boy Scout.
No, it is a bad idea to create a dark Superman; You will tarnish the image of the Man of Steel and upset true Superman fans with a dark version.
You want sale ticket, have a good Superman battle and go all out against a new villian who is more powerful than him, but, with help of a dark Batman, after they settle their differences and realize they are both on the same side, together they defeat the villian and in the end we learn Batman is not so Dark.
Make new villians not heros.
Sincerely,
A DC FAN to the Heart
My english is very bad... We not need of dark superman. He ever was the symbol of peace... No is perfect, but too is far from being bad. I think that they would have characterize he as kingdom Come (Maybe that one is dark superman more apropriate).
I have to agree with quite a few others have Superman fight some one else. No more Lex Luthor! Make a couple of movies like that. Then Do the Death of Superman(like the comic not the cartoon) Then you can do the reign of Superman. For those who want to see a Batman/Superman charecter, look for a comic prodused by elseworld/DC called speeding Bullets. It is a sort of What if ... type of thing. Superman crash near Gothem instead of Smallville and the Waynes find him. It is pretty awsome.
you need to do a jla movie before you do a death of superman
but yes the next superman movie would be cool if he fought doomsday
the world is glad hes back so bam take him away again introduce the four fake superman
make the cadamus kidnap his son and age him to be superboy
YOU DON'T NEED A DARK SUPERMAN MOVIE TO SELL TICKETS. YOU NEED TO HAVE A SUPERMAN MOVIE THAT HAS SUPERMAN FIGHTING SOMEONE ELSE OTHER THAN LEX LUTHOR AND KRYPTONITE. THAT STORY IS SO OLD AND SO GAY. HAVE SUPERMAN DEFEND EARTH AGAINST DOOMSDAY, DARKSEID, OR ANY KIND OF ALIEN. IF YOU MADE A MOVIE AS EXCITING AS THE JUSTICE LEAGUE CARTOON, YOU WOULD *CRUSH* ANY SUPERHERO MOVIE MADE!
I AGREE WITH THIS ONE . NO DARK SUPERMAN PLS.... GIVE SUPERMAN A CHANCE TO CUT LOOSE ....A SUPER VILLIAN WHO CAN TAKE IT PLS .
No. Be true to your source. 'The Dark Knight' is Batman's nickname, the movie is based on Batman comics. 'Man of Steel' is Superman's nickname, for example. Superman should be based on Superman comics, like Spider-Man will be based on Spider-Man comics/animated series, so on and so forth. Not whatever's trendy.
Well I am not a "Super" fan of the strong man in tights, but it would be nice to see a film that had a darker side...I would love to see the "Death of Superman" movie
with Doomsday...For me this the darkest period in Superman history...not to mention the most depressing...
why not a dark superman?! i want to see superman cuts loose, just like this:

EVERY TRULY HUMAN BEING HAS A DARK AND BROODING PART OF THEIR PERSONALITY, WHY NOT SUPERMAN??? WHILE HE WAS BORN ON ANOTHER PLANET, HE WAS ADOPTED AND RAISED ON OUR PLANET. THE EVIDENCE FROM HIS HOME PLANET'S SOCIETY, DOESN'T DISCOUNT OR EVEN DISCOURAGE THAT THEY WERE ANY DIFFERENT FROM US ON A SOCIOLOGICAL LEVEL, EVEN AS ADVANCED ON AN ITELLECTUAL LEVEL AS THEY WERE. THEY STILL HAD DOUBTS AND SEVERE EMOTIONS EVEN WHEN TOLD OF THE DEMISE OF THEIR OW WORLD.
HAVING SAID ALL THAT, I DON'T WANT A VIGILATE SUPERMAN LIKE THE LORD KRYPTON CHARACTER(WHO WAS ANOTHER CHARACTER ON ANOTHER VERSION OF EARTH); I WOULD HOWEVER WELCOME A MORE BALANCED HERO. NOT SO GOODIE TWO-SHOES AS WE HAVE SEEN. MORE DEPTH, MORE FAULTS, MORE VISION...
I think instead of a dark superman, they should bring more action to the new superman. Whats up with lexluthor? WHy cant superman batttle somoemone like doomsday on the bigscreen, that would be awesome.
It's an amazing idea, but there's just a bit of a problem, it's already been done, think back to the Justice League Unlimited and remember "The Justice Lords" you see that guy with the black outfit and the white cape? yeah his name is Lord Krypton AKA Dark Superman, he no longer has tolerance for small time crooks or beings from other dimensions, neither for those who disobey the "Lords" he already killed President Alexander "Lex" Luthor and pulverized Doomsday's brain with heat vision, he's a pretty serious up-front Kryptonian that nobody should dare defy EVER! ! !.... yeah, a Dark Superman? that ruled back then, and it will continue to rule future events and future makings! ! ! ! ALL HAIL LORD KRYPTON! ! !
Remember that power corrupts, But absolute power, coorupts absolutely...
I don't know what you would do to superman to make him "Darker" but the fact remains that Superman and Batman are DIFFERENT!
One is not better than the other they have different values, strengths, and weaknesses. Batman is a "Crime fighter" Superman protects the world from super-powered Beings and even from the earth itself, he won't kill people either just like Batman. You don't have to make superman more brooding, that’s not what he is. That's why people like Superman because he is an ideal individual.
If WB wants to make a new Superman Motion picture either keep the Singer/Donner Superman or use the CW's Smallville Superman. We know and accept these versions you don't have to make a darker Superman, if we wanted the franchise to go in that direction we would have let Tim Burton Screw it up for everyone when he was going to make it in the 90's.
Bottom line: Don't make Superman darker just because Batman is, it's their differences that make them Unique.

What you need for Superman just like Batman is a good story. Batman is dark so you need a dark good story. Superman is light and good so you need a good light story with villains he fights. Oh and Superman should save Lois, not Lois saving Superman...
I'm sorry but nobody cares about a dark brooding superman, or Clark Kent's feelings... If they want to explore all of those aspects do it in a comic book. In a 21st century comic book movie that needs to compete with xmen, the hulk, batman, the watchers... we need Superman to fight a decent villain. The Joker made the dark knight... Bring us a REAL superman SUPER villain, bring us DARK SEID!! BRAINIAC!! Something cool and never seen before on screen with superman. In the process, why not introduce other DC heroes like Green Lantern? Take a Superman Movie out of its element... but don't give us Superman Begins. I've seen enough of krypton exploding and strong babies lifting trucks.
I think a dark superman could best be explored in a new way.. kill the people he is closest to, like Lois.. show him the darkest parts of humanity.. make him feel pain and loss.. so that he comes up w/ some plan for humanity, maybe feeling the best way to help us w/ our constant conflict, is to eradicate a large percentage of the population.. w/ power like superman possesses, there is a possibility that the dream could go awry and that great atrocities could be carried out in the name of the "greater good." it happened to Xavier during the Onslaught epic.. in each hero there is potential for great evil.. u just have to blind the hero to his better judgement...
Well the idea of a dark Superman has already been done. I think the really dark aspect of Superman is the Clark Kent persona. Instead of beating the dark Superman story arcs to the death how about we examine the darker aspects of Clark.
I think it will be unique to do that like they have done with the Hulk and Bruce Banner.
First off, the idea of a "darker" Superman has actually been approached on several occasions, and is completely within the scope of the DC Comics universe.
Some of the approaches that were used in the past are: on Smallville, when Jor-El was controlling Kal-El; Bizarro, which the Smallville version was quite malevolent; there was also the time that Darkseid convinced Kal-El he was his son, and declared war on Earth; also it is obvious by the events of Justice League and the Batman-Superman movie that even other heroes fear Superman losing control (Batman abruptly ending conflicts with Superman with the use of Green Kryptonite); the use of Red Kryptonite has also been a factor for some of Superman's less charming moments; of course, no one could forget about the Eradicator.
Personally, I think this would be a great time to re-introduce the Eradicator. At one point, the Eradicator was able to alter Superman's perceptions, and that would be a perfect way to introduce a dark Superman.
Naturally, the Dark Superman would need to be temporary, but it can be very useful in perpetuating the greatness of Superman. Many do not want a dark Superman because of the ideals and values that are associated with him. This is the best part though: Superman chooses to be a hero! Why would someone as impervious and powerful as Superman constantly lower himself to saving humanity. Even Superman can be corrupted, but he actively chooses to be a hero, not a villain. The fact that he is willing to stay the course, though he would be virtually unrivaled otherwise, is awe inspiring. What better portrayal of a Superhero is there than that?
Whatever happened to cliff hangers in sequels like this? The vegetable soup mentality of lets throw everything in a story and resolve it in 30mins, an hour or two hours is freaking lame!
I want to see Superman vs Darkseid. In this movie strange things could start happening to the planet with no idea why. Then as the plot unfolds we find out Darkseid is behind it. Superman has never met him. So he's a new enemy. By the end of the movie Darkseid has figured out a way to turn Superman dark/evil and put him under his control. This would lead into the next movie where Superman snaps out of the dark/evil control. Or maybe this is where Batman or the Justice League come in to save him.
I'm a huge Superman fan...I've even got his shield tatooed on my arm. I've been reading other comments in here talking about not changing Superman...He can't be changed from his original existence ever...but he like everyone else has to at some point evolve: I Picture This:
