The undersigned are boycotting the movie The Golden Compass.

THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released December 7, 2007. This movie is based on the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about killing God."

The movie is a watered-down version of the first book and is designed to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie -and that the children will want the books for Christmas.

The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Kevin Bacon, and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is crucial that we get the word out to warn parents to avoid this movie.

god.dammmn

No, are you **** KIDDING ME.

READ THE BOOK
nobody says **** about.

"Oh lets kill god."

If Phillip Pullman, who is a magnificent author wants to say that. then let him, but it does not say that in the book.

Stop being narrow minded.

**** IDIOTS

so i read further down, and to everyone, paretns should read the books first. though my personal opinion is an aversion to the books and the idea, and i get this campaigns goal, but parents can make the decisions for themselves. sure get the word out, i have a friend who read the books before she would let her children read them or see the movie.

aye. i agree. maybe a little over the top....but didn't the movie bomb anyways?

ok im a christian but i think u went way to far with this crap some people just read way to much into this stuff

WOW are you serious? Look people these books were written a long time ago, my father read them and passed them down to me. I'm all about a good story and I get to decide what I want after the book is over. That doesn't mean it's not a good book or movie. Children should have the right to decide what they want to watch and read, and if parents are so worried about this movie read the **** book yourself. Make the educated decision and understand like Ida H said give them more **** credit. Retarded christian people thinking everything is a attack..this is a attack..open your minds already.

while i agree with you on most things, you dont have to be so angry. and secondly, the books were written in the 1990's. That isnt quite "a long time ago". Not having a strong grasp of the facts is just what makes me mad about people boycotting the movie/books - so don't be guilty of the same thing. and attacking the other side doesn't make rational people look any better. all you are doing is sinking to the same level. very hypocritical.

I'm Christian and still went to see the first movie. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, not because it's supposedly anti-God, but because it simply wasn't a well done movie. The plot skips around too often. They failed to showcase the talents of Kidman and Craig. Even with the perfect young actress for the lead role, the movie just wasn't very good.

How narrowminded.. Broaden your vision people! It's a movie designed to make people think about their world, their lives and their beliefs. If you truly believe you won't be swayed by a movie.. Besides that, shouldn't your kids have the right to choose their own beliefs? Children can handle a lot more than you give them credit for.
I'm an atheist, but that doesn't mean that I don't live by the christian rules. It's just common sense. And frankly, if you need a book to tell you how to live and are afraid of a movie, you need to get out and live a little.

(Other than that, I agree that the books are way better than the movie xD )

Wow I feel sorry for you.

Children are beautiful little sponges, what they hear and see sinks into thier little hearts. Lets be wise in what we allow them to watch!

Amen to that.

I agree, with Nick there should be a NO option, I mean this is supposed to be Opinion based isnt it?.

I agree what you are saying. Of course, the movie has already realeased but some of the kids at my school where talking about what this is all about so at least you got the word out.

I realy do not why so much noise with this movie, the novel is 10 times better, this a mediocre movie any ways, full of bad acting and a plot that never takes off, that differs a lot from what is seen in the book, if you want a good adaptations of a book see lord of the rings, interview with a vampire, dracula, American Psycho, doctor zhivago avoid Harry potter, da vinci code and queen of the dawn at all cost, excellent books really bad movies, and the "killing God" part was avoid on this movie, if may be mentioned onces in a really soft way, not using the words killing, or God in the movie, "the Authority" the way God is call in this movie is not even mentioned that much, so what is all the noise, the da vinci code by far was more controversial than this, please this movie simply sucks, I cannot belive it wont an oscar (only for special effects, still I do think Transformers was far superior than this movie in special effect and everything)

Transformers was way better than the ???

First time visitor to YouChoose.com and I wonder why the application doesn't offer an option for people oppose to certain petitions to voice their opinion. Instead of writing an argumentative comment against this pledge, I'd simply like to offer my vote, "NO."

It does allow you to sign the petition and you d not have to make a coment if you dont want to.

This is really biased your bolstering your numbers by not allowing people to objest to the issue

I really don't get the massive protests against this movie and the trilogy. The target audience is elementary school kids. These kids are not going to see the religious allusions in the book, they're going to see cool animals and a fun adventure. Little (if any) of the "killing God" stuff will register, and even if it does it's not going to kill their faith. Honestly, if your faith is so weak that it will be swayed by a children's novel, then you need to seriously reconsider your belief system.

I am not concerned about the ramblings of an author, with some serious personal issues, challenging my faith. But the fact that he is targeting the minds of young children, who are so easily influenced by pop culture

thats true, but MOST religous people ARE NOT very strong in there religion.

A movie about killing God?, Great, killing god is exactly what the world needs. It is apparent you are lost as you would stop children from seeing anything that didn't support your world view. Freedom is meant especially for children. Parents, take your children to see The Golden Compass and open thier minds to the truth. The rest of you can worry about hell, your attiude cleary proves you are living in your own right now.

Ron A

Thank you Alyssa. only killing God is nothing to take lighty. In the second sentence of your comment, Ron , you said that it is apparent that we are lost. But no, it is apparent that YOU are lost. Go to an apostolic church and yell, I WATCHED A MOVIE ABOUT KILLING GOD AND I LOVED IT! and I promise you that they will preach beat you and baptize you before you can say amen!!!!

Ron A- You are as much as the poster of this pole. You aren't supporting freedom. You are supporting yourself and your beliefs in freedom. I think that the Golden Compass movie was fantastic. I loved it. It doesn't mean that I want to Kill God. I am a strong believer in God and I don't think that seeing this movie makes you any less of a Christen. Ron A. Freedom is privilege. People like you are a threat to take that privilege away.

LOL, when I give out a book (and I will) someone is probably gonna do this to me too.
Philip Pullman ROCKS!!!

Okay well, I'm Catholic and I've read the books. Honestly, I don't really care that it promotes Atheism. I think they're interesting books and I enjoyed reading them. They're just books and it's just a freakin movie! It didn't make me wanna get up and go atheist. Just give it a break. for real. Leave the golden compass alone.

You are not a REAL catholic if you can take KILLING YOUR FATHER LIGHTLY!!!!!!

oh cmon. Just cause I read a book that promotes atheism does not mean i'm not a real catholic. I am a real Catholic. I love God. I follow the commandments. I've been baptized.I go to communion every time i go to church. I go to church every sunday and holy day of obligation and sometimes even more. I go to confession once every month. I've been confirmed. Just cause i read a book that promotes atheism does not mean anything. and "killing your father" in and of itself is impossible. and like i said. I love God...so why would i want to kill him? sooo...if i start reading a book on another religion...would you accuse me of not being a real catholic again? really. all i did was read a book that involves another person's religion and beliefs. everyone can believe what they like. i wont stop them. I'll believe what i like. and they can believe what they like. My beliefs wont disappear just because of a book. If your beliefs are easily bent and broken by this book, i dont think you have much faith.
so end of the story. I am a real catholic. I love God. God cant be killed. I'm not taking anything lightly. It's just a book. I read it. I found his beliefs interesting, but that doesnt mean I'm gonna go atheist. I read Harry Potter too. I'm not running around on broomsticks and trying to enchant people. If a book is how a person wants to communicate his beliefs to the world, so be it. Let him do so. and if people want to make a movie out of it, let them do it. If you dont want your kids to see the movie, dont let them watch it. The end. Thank you for listening.

just a question for you, Jon,...are you catholic? I know it's not any of my business...I'm just kind of curious...cause you seemed to attack my comment as if you were a catholic. and if you are...you better examine your beliefs and how you act on them...and if you're taking them a little too far.
