The Golden Compass.
THE GOLDEN COMPASS, a new movie targeted at children, will be released December 7, 2007. This movie is based on the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about killing God."
The movie is a watered-down version of the first book and is designed to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie -and that the children will want the books for Christmas.
The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Kevin Bacon, and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is crucial that we get the word out to warn parents to avoid this movie.

Golden Compass is just fiction. So is Da Vinci Code. So is Desparate Housewives. Some Christians are so eager to put down anything that doesn't promote their story. If you say it is so bad, it must be good!

this is ridiculous. I have been a huge fan of that series since I was a kid. I think Pullman may have just been saying it was a God-killing theme to create buzz around the series. Read them and you'll understand.
This is CRAZY. Some movies condone religion, do atheists start petitions to tell people not to watch them because their children might end up believing in God ? I don't think so.
There are different kinds of atheism so you might want to be careful on your wording. For example,some atheists believe there is a God but nothing is known about Him.

ppl hu cant differentiate a movie frm real life shouldn't watch it.. but if u truly have deep fait in ur religion i dont see y u should feel insulted by this movie... key word its just a MOVIE.. its FICTION.... no harm done...

Wow. If you study history and Jesus you can see the truth. Ive always believed in God without no one telling me about him since i can remember. I just always believed and pray to God by myself in my yard when i was 8. This person is just acting out against the God and believes they are nobel for even writing a story like this. Its horrible.

i think as informed citizens parents know where to draw the line and most children know that films are just fantasy. so i think we have no right to sign such stupid petitions! if you are talking about this then what about harry potter and narnia and all? where is the god there? i have read Pullmans books and as a language teacher have ASKED my students to do so as well! I think we should trust our children and broaden OUR horizons!
They celebrate Christmas at Hogwarts. And in Narnia the kids are referred to as sons of Adam and Daughters of Eve.
You know what, grow up. If you don't like it, don't watch it, and let other people form their own opinions on what they believe their children should watch without their ideas being tainted by some religious brainwashing ****...
The books kill God. But the movie is so lousy that it does have an opposite effect. the kids should watch it. Alhamduliah.
This just sounds like every other stupid children's movie that has been released in the past few years...its in the same category as Narnia and all the other bad epic children movies...why don't we just stick to Star Wars and LOTR because those are much better
This silly and childish petition ironically supports what the movie is saying - censorship is a form of denying free will. Are people worried their religion and faith is so flimsy that a movie will destroy it? I would think this kind of reactionary religious nonsense is exactly what Pullman had in mind when he wrote the books. And you quote Pullman without giving the full context - the books are about "killing god" - yes, in the sense that he attacks the myth of God being an old man with a big beard in the sky, and replaces it with a God that to my mind is more consistent with the true spirit of religion. And can anyone deny that human beings claiming to be religious - (we won't blame this on God, it's certainly not His fault) have caused a huge pile of mess in this world?
