Who should Buffy choose?

Issue:

    Alright I made a campaign a few weeks ago hoping to get people behind a Buffy movie.  I have been very pleased with the amount of new members and their comments.  In thinking about a possible new movie one question keeps coming up.  Should Buffy ultimately end up with Angel or Spike?

Belief:

            I believe that if they do make a Whedonverse movie to tie up the loose ends of the plots of Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, that Buffy should choose once and for all which vampire she loves the most.

            For anyone who isn’t familiar with this love triangle here is the most objective synopsis I can give.  Angel was Buffy’s first love.  He was her guide and protector in Sunny Dale until they had sex and he lost his soul turning into the evil Angelus.  Then he tormented her for a season until he got his soul back just before she had to send him too hell.  He of course got out of hell but had to bail because he got his own series set in Las Angeles.  In one of the early episodes of Angel he gets some demon blood in a cut on his hand and is turned human.  Buffy happens to be in Las Angeles at the time and it looks like they can now be together because his curse is truly lifted.  Unfortunately he is a champion that knows his job is not yet complete so he goes to an oracle that reverses time and Buffy has no knowledge of the one amazing day they had together.   In one of the final episodes of Buffy she does insinuate that they could be together someday.

            Spike arrived on the scene in the season two premiere of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.  He looks and talks like Billy Idol and has very heavy influence from Luke Perry’s character, Pike, in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie starring Kristi Swanson.  His character was actually on the show much longer than Angel’s though evil for much longer.  In season 4 the military puts a chip in his head that shocks him if he tries to hurt humans.  He then discovers he can hurt Demons and becomes a pseudo good guy at the same time falling in love with Buffy even though he kind hates her too.  At the end of season six he goes to some sort of demon shaman and goes through trials and torture to get his soul back.  He and Buffy also had tons of sex because Spike was all about her and she was kind of tweaked out on account of the fact that she died went to heaven and was ripped back to earth by a magic spell.  But that is another story.

            So Whedon tried to tie this up by having Spike and Angel go to Italy only to find that Buffy was dating some immortal guy called “the immortal.”  I personally thought this was lame because you don’t see Buffy.  I think Sara Michelle Gellar had other obligations at the time.

            So I think the fans should decide.  If you think Buffy should be with her first love and you still remember that song that they used to play when they were together then vote for the Vampire with a soul who helps the helpless Angel.  If you feel that Buffy and Spike’s relationship was better developed in the plot and that he was more true to her because he sought out his soul and ended up later sacrificing himself to save the world then vote for the witty British rock star Vamp William the Bloody, aka Spike.

i don't mind which one she ends up as long as she chooses instead of leading both the poor guys on.

Of course the thing with Angel is going to seem like it's the better choice because it was so easy to find it, but that's never the case. Think of your very first love, for instance. I know mine didn't last, and I can still remember him to this day. Sometimes I miss him... but better things have come along and I'm a lot happier than I was. Spike is Buffy's TRUE love, not his first. There's a difference, and that makes it so much more pure. Not to mention, Spike had feelings for her before and after the incident with the soul. He knows what she is, who she is, and accepts it all. He's seen the adult that's she grown to be, and not the naive teenager that Angel had. Angel needs someone more to his moody nature, and Buffy needs a guy that'll challenge her - and that guy is definitely Spike. :)

We all can agree that Angel and Spike love Buffy and that both of them would give anything for be with her. Spike love her that is completely true and that he sacrifice a lot to be with her and that their relationship even if it didnt started in a special way it grow and it became and transform into friendship and respect and to depend in each other is real and is no discussion there but you have to agree that she didnt love him, is true that she feel for him and that was strong and meaningful but it wasn´t love. Angel in the other hand love her more than nothing in this life, she was the reason because he want to be human and a better man, she is the woman for him and he knows that and that is why he told her that he will wait for her until she is ready, she is the reason why he fights and why he lives, if you remmember in season 2 of buffy episode "becoming part I" he decide to become someone and to fight because of her, to help her, to be by her side. Angel was and is love for Buffy, is her perfect man. You have to understand that one is your first love and the other is your great and true love and Angel is both and there is no way that you can compete against that. Spike have lust and yes passion to. But the passion that you saw whith Angel and Buffy was priceless and they didnt have the lust of spike and buffy but you cant built a relationship in lust that is the recipe for a disaster.
Buffy and Angel will always love each other, they are soulmates, they were born to be together and didnt matter how apart they were you always could see how much they miss and needed each other. They mature and grow and that just makes things more perfects because now they are prepare for a committed relationship and what that involves, they can enjoy more what it means to be with someone. My vote is for Angel, just because true love never die. And one way or other they will end up together, is there destiny.

Please explain how you can say Angel was so in love with Buffy that he loved her more than any woman?you see the real problem im having believing that Angel loved Buffy more than any woman is that when Buffy died all Angel did or said was Buffy (Spike on the other hand was so taken by grief when he saw Buffy dead that he couldnt even stand he fell to the floor crying)when Darla died Angel went crazy in grief trying to find a way to save her even that he was even gonna try resurecting her,So if Angel really loved Buffy like your ssaying why didnt he get that heart broken over her like he did Darla?also Angel was more grief stricken over Cordelias death than he was with Buffys death also,and Angel became human in season 1 of Angel episode I will remember but he gave up humanity to so call save Buffy but i didnt see him move back to Sunnydale to help her out with Glory Buffy died any way so see he didnt save her did he,Angel never even helped Buffy pretect Dawn from Glory Spike did though,and your saying Angel loved Buffy more than anything in the world?why didnt Angel who so called love Buffy so much try to find a real soul like Spike did?Because Angel was all about himself wow he left Sunnydale cause he loved Buffy how is that love?then he falls in love with Darla then Cordelia how can you say that he felt the so called love for Buffy after loving them?and also dying for someone (like Spike did for Buffy) is a hell of alot more meaningful that leaving some one behing like Angel did to Buffy,also Spike and Buffy been through more together than Angel and Buffy ever did,teenage love doesnt even compare to adult love all Angel ever did for Buffy was ruin her abilty to love a man or even let a man love her when Angel left Buffy he emotionally damaged her Buffy was broken up inside when he left after every thing she went through for him(like the vampire thing,losing her virginity,respect of her friends,the humiliation of him losing his soul and killing Jenny Calendar and others,killing him,him coming back,him leaving her)made her afraid to love again and afraid to let love in so tell me how Angel is the soul mate for Buffy?Spike is the real champion and the real man/vampire for Buffy,what Buffy and Spike had was passion,desire,solid,emotion,trust,dependable,exciting,spontanious,love,loyallty,pain,things people went through on a daily basis in a relationship,what Angel and Buffy had was teen lust and dull,anyway i so beleive Spike and Buffy loved each other cause Buffy trusted Spike with Dawn and i know Buffy loved Dawn more than herself,Angel never watched Dawn for Buffy or even came around to let us know he was in love with her,i was real angry when Angel hit Buffy because of faith in the Angel episode season 1,so sorry but to me Spike and Buffy are soul mates.Spike loves Buffy for all of her the whole Buffy package,Angel only loved the Slayer part of Buffy and the teen innosent part of her,Spike and Buffy ferever.

I loved the Spike transformation His scenes with Drusilla early on were spectacular. I can't wait for James Marsters to get his own series one day -- preferably one with some sort of supernatural bent. But Buffy and Angel belong together forever. If he had stayed in the Buffy show instead of moving on to his own they would have managed to be together in the end somehow.

Buffy should be with Spike. Their relationship has much more passion. Remember how evil Angel is without his soul? Spike fell in love with Buffy even before he got his soul back, if Angel had met Buffy when he had no soul he would have killed her without a second thought. Besides all of that James Marsters is cool and the man can sing! Can anyone remember how bad Angel is at karoke? lol :)

clearly she should go for angel, he gave up his soul to actually be with her even though he knew what would happen, and yes spike loved her without a soul but come on angel is so much hotter than spike

most definatly it should be blondie bear he worked so hard for it. besides angel has so many other issues like his son conner, could anyone out there imagine buffy as conners stepmom, for gods sake he was cordys kid. i vote for spikey!!!!

In the Buffy finale it pretty much summed up how she felt. She told Spike she loved him and he told her that she didn't, but that it was okay. Spike knew what we all know that Angel is her first love and her true soulmate.

I'm definately for Buffy choosing Spike!
Although with the Season Eight comics hot, I doubt they'll reprise any of that. I mean, they just printed a "Buffy is a lesbian/bi-sexual!" storyline!

Buffy should choose Spike, all the way. If you think about it, Angel fell in love with Cordelia, and I think they were totally suited for eachother. Plus, at the end of Angel, they didn't really make it seem like the Gang was going to make it out of that battle alive. Plus, as far as Spike goes, he fell in love with Buffy long before he even had a soul. That's true love.

PERSONALLY... I'm in the camp of Giles never having 'a father's love' for buffy and that they should end up together. there are just too many B/G shippy moments in the show to ignore. But if I had to choose between spike and angel i would DEFINATELY choose Spike. Buffy with Angel just irritates the crap out of me and at least Spike has a frickin sense of humor.

I think Spike is better, Angel gets much to annoying with the brooding and such. Buffy would need someone who has more of an ability to have fun, she already has enough issue. But having the show end with loose ends leaves a lot to the fans imaginations which is also great.

wow ... it's nice to know that buffy/angel still lives! i just finished seeing both series and i ran into this site (wish i saw it when it was on tv) and i love these shows! joss whedon is so amazing!

anyway, so who should buffy choose: she should be with someone who can understand her destiny and be her partner while also take care of her and help her have a normal life... now who knows if that's angel or spike

but, who WILL buffy choose: angel

I just want her to choose Angel because I think Spike is too good for her and he deserves someone better - my personal choice would be Willow, but then again I'm a Spillow fan.

I love Spike... he was always a favorite character... Even though Buffy may love Spike... She could never love him like she loves Angel and that would destroy Spike so they can't end up together... Oh, unless Angel goes all Grrrr again and Buffy has to kill him... Then Spike for sure :)
