Who Should Get Ellen's Dog?Forum Discussion for Who Should Get Ellen's Dog? Submitted by Joe G. on Mon, 03/17/2008 - 19:05
if left outside for long probably a coyote, they gooble them down cat's too! Submitted by Deborah K. on Sun, 03/16/2008 - 04:42
I too signed a contract when I adopted my dog. If Ms. Degeneres is willing to break her contract then what was the point of signing it in the first place? She can't just hand the dog over to whomever she pleases. The dog should be returned to the rescue group. Submitted by fee r. on Sun, 01/20/2008 - 11:07
Give it back, in the hope that someone who will be able to care for it can give it a loving home. Submitted by Carolann Q. on Sun, 11/04/2007 - 09:56
My take on this subject: The ladies from Mutts and Moms are running a business on the side of their non-profit organization. This just happens to be a high-end boutique for dogs. Here's my take on the scenario: They give away dogs and then the client feels obligated to buy cuts, treats, and toys at the store. They probably saw dollar signs dance about their heads when Ellen DeGeneres walked into the store. When she gave the dog to her ::gasp:: hairdresser's family, their balloon burst. The rule about no kids under 13 in the home is just plain silly. I have a just turned 14 year old and she is great with animals. There is no magic age...some people don't mature EVER! It seems like these women were looking for an out and found one. Submitted by Dillon M. on Wed, 10/24/2007 - 01:32
Um, yeah. Ridiculous. If you can't abide by the rules of a contract, don't enter into a contract. Pick up a puppy off the side of the road, from the box that says 'Free'. Those poor babies need a home as well. Then you won't have to deal with some stuffed shirt organization and their contracts. Common sense just isn't too common anymore, is it? They need to start teaching logic in schools again...... Submitted by danelle h. on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 23:18
Ridiculous. More important things to fight for!!! Give the dog back to the kids and get over yourselves, Mutts and Moms. Gail G., who are you, anyway?? What "real facts?" do those little girls plan to dress up Iggy for tea parties? How dare they?! Submitted by Lucinda W. on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 16:37
Rules apply to everyone, not just the 'not so famous' general public. If the dog did not work out for ellen, then she should have lived up to the written agreement. When you give your word (written or oral) it is honorable to stick to it. Submitted by Gail G. on Mon, 10/22/2007 - 10:11
To bad those of you who don't know the real facts are making blanket statements. Maybe if you knew everything, you wouldn't be so quick to judge. Submitted by myra r. on Sun, 10/21/2007 - 15:58
I agree. The restrictions this "adoption agency" has on families adopting animals is too strict. Instead of taking a stance against "the Ellens of the world", they could have evaluated the hairdresser's family, made a statement that they may be reviewing their adoption policies, and let the family keep the dog... thus avoiding all of this media hype and alleged death threats. I also believe it was extremely poor judgment to pose as someone else to gain access to the hairdresser's home and then take the poor animal away. What is being done about that?!I can understand that they have policies, but companies do address their policies from time to time and adjust to the situation- the owner/directors have that option to change policies or make exceptions as needed. This thing has been way overblown. Submitted by Brenda F. on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 01:06
These women SHOULD NOT be dealing w/animals that need homes, that age rule is ridiculous. We have ALWAYS had shelter animals (that we've adopted) in our house while all 3 of my children were growing up; HOW ELSE are we suppose to teach our children to ADOPT these animals instead of going to the pet store and buying them???? Millions of animals are being destroyed each yr. and they are having a 'power struggle' over a stupid issue, HOW the heck did they get authorized to adopt these poor animals out?? So it's better for the poor dog to live in a cage instead of a loving home? I hope someone investigates these women. NOW no one will probably even go to them so what good did all this do? If they were forgiving and really cared about the animals they would let him go where he had a home and love. so sad. Submitted by Mary S. on Sat, 10/20/2007 - 00:30
Okay, honestly, I think they should have evaluated the family Ellen gave the dog do, (obviously they are good people or Ellen wouldn't have given them the dog) and let the dog stay. This would now all be over and never become such a big issue. I think intially the dog organization made a big deal out of something that should have been made very simple. But now, this is beginning to get old and I think we all, including Ellen, need to let it go and move on. There are bigger problems in this world, and this 'Where is Iggy' situation is starting to get silly. Submitted by Sheila T. on Fri, 10/19/2007 - 16:34
I don't feel for Ellen at all with this issue. The rules are there to protect the animals. If she and the rest of the rich and celebrities continue to believe that their wealth puts them above the rules, then maybe we should adopt extra tough rules for these individuals that prefer not to have rules apply to them. I work with the nouve riche and they are all the same - above the law, rules, regulations, waiting in line or any personal responsibility. Although I am sure the little girls are having a hard time, the loss of an animal is an unfortunate rite of childhood passage. Grow up Ellen and follow the rules like everyone else that makes less than you!!!! Submitted by renea s. on Fri, 10/19/2007 - 12:03

ELLEN, I THINK THE HAIRDRESSER AND KIDS SHOULD GET THE DOG BACK. YOU ARE A MILLIONAIRE AND A RESPONSIBLE PERSON. IF YOU THOUGHT THAT THE FAMILY WAS UNFIT FOR THE DOG I KNOW IN MY HEART YOU WOULD NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. I HOPE AND PRAY FOR THE BEST, AND MAY GOD BE WITH YOU AND THE FAMILY AND THE DOG. I FEEL TOTALLY BAD ABOUT THE SITUATION, AND WISH THE LADY FROM THE ADOPTION AGENCY WOULD ATLEAST HAVE A HEART AND GIVE IT BACK. LOVE YA ELLEN AND WISH I CAN MEET YOU SOMEDAY Submitted by Emma P. on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 19:50
Please give the dog back to the little girl .she is old enough to take good care of him , Submitted by Jannetta N. on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 15:39
I can't believe Ms DeGenerate could be so ridiculous & stupid as to tape something like this on her show! She knew full well what she was doing. I believe the the company should sue her for defamation of character.I think the company should check into the family, then if the family checks out maybe offer them the dog.But in no way should they back down. A rule is a rule Being a celebrity should not be cause to not follow the rules! Icertainly would not do this because ELLEN said so!! Submitted by Cindy p. on Thu, 10/18/2007 - 05:36
I can't believe this with all the little animals out there that need good loving homes and this is an issue. The 2nd family should have been checked out even with children and given the dog a home. GOOD DOGS go hand in hand with kids/families, I'm sure Ellen knew the family wasn't a Vick Shyco. All the dog needed was a loving family, like so many others need. Submitted by John Q. on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 17:23
Yeah, this is tough. I feel bad for the family that had the dog. Ellen has put the company in a tight spot by using her show as a platform. It would have been nice if they'd met with the 2nd family and approved them, but they do have the rule about children (I can't imagine why young children + a dog is that bad, but that's a different issue). If they bend for her, how many more times will they have to bend their rules? Submitted by Mary Beth D. on Wed, 10/17/2007 - 16:26
Tough one. Rules are made for a reason. What if Ellen gave the dog to a Michael Vick? Would that be ok? I believe that is why the rules are what they are. I was just looking to adopt from an agency (LAPS) and they have the same rule about returning the animal if I can't keep it. I understood completely. It's for the good of the animal.
