I studied Eclectic Wicca when I was younger, although I don't practice it anymore, but have always considered it a religion. However, Don't ask my Fundamentalist Christian Sister that question. lol.
Meery Greet and Merry Meet, Wicca-Witchcraft is not a cult by any stretch of the mind. I cannot speak for all who practice The Old Ways, because I wouldn't want someone speaking for me, but I can speak for, myself. I tried many Christain based faiths before finding my way to being a Witch. I now know what it really means to turn the other cheek and to take responsibility for my own actions and/or deeds. I no longer believe in "divine redemption or forgiveness" what ever I do in this life time I hold myself accountable for it. So when I "sin" I know there will be consequences for it and accept that before I do it. Blessed Be
ALL religions, by definition, are a cult! Wicca is an earth based religion as vaild as any other and we have the same rights as Christians! Most Christians holidays are pagan based (Yule is Christmas, Easter is Ostera, Holloween is Samnhain just to name a few.) Many early christian statues were re-worked pagan statues and many hymns were pagan songs also reworked. Even many of thier old testament stories are pagan (Noah is actually the story of Gilgamash and angels are from Babylon).
The differance between Christians and Wicca and other pagan faiths is that we don't believe in crushing other faiths or killing thier followers or enslaving women or viewing woman as inferior to men but seperate and equal. We don't force our beliefs onto others and make them believe our hypocrical ways.... pro-life and pro-war?!? Save babies so we can kill them later?!?
We don't belive in a hell or satan... that is pure christian... we believe that a person is completely resposible for their own actions. And Lastly, we believe that life is to be enjoyed and savored not spent thinking everything we do is a sin and to lived in misery.
Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus. Easter is to remeber that Jesus died on a cross and rose form the dead. We do not believe in killing our followers or enslaving women. God is about mercy and forgivness. We do not spend our lives in misery and not everything we do is a sin. We also don't force anyone to believe what we do, I willl tell the story and it is your choose as to what you believe? As long as i tried.
I don't think that Christians are as you say they are Nicolle because I go to a Catholic school and they are all very pleasant people and they accept me as a pagan. Although, I think that some Christian holidays were origionally derived from pagan culture.
I stand corrected on some things here. You are right we did get some of our traditions from pagan things like the Christmas tree and Easter eggs. but i still believe in God.
the def of cult-Cult typically refers to a cohesive social group devoted to beliefs or practices that the surrounding population considers to be outside the mainstream, with a notably positive or negative popular perception. wiccan isnt outside the mainstream, yes there arnt as many wiccans as there are christians but christianty was once a cult when it started out
As a Christian, I cannot say that Wiccans follow the true path. However, they follow a path that they believe in and that path is a very ancient path; not one that has been dreamed up by some Hollywood kook. If I were to run across a Wiccan, it would be my bounden duty to bring him/her to the Lord, but I will not put down their belief as some kind of crack pot cult phenomenon because it is not.
If I meet you can I bring you to our Gods and Goddesses? You are putting down our faith by wanting to change us with your "bound duty". Our bound duties are peace love understanding tolerance with all people of the world, Mother Earth anf the rest of the Elements to bring about everyone and everything living in harmony. Please if you ever meet me don't try to convert me.

Greetings,
Cult??? I don't think so!
Absolutely not and those who say it is don't know anything REAL about it.
Read about it for more than ten seconds and you'll find out why.
a celebration of all nature
