Obviously using the Olympics to get attention to any cause will get the publicity, however, is it really a format to abuse. Lots of young people train very hard to be a part of this global event. It brings us together as one human race on one planet. Seems to me we should be protecting the one thing we all have in common instead of destroying the chance to meet, greet and compete!

You know what? I just find it so funny that in some places outside China, the protesters are called "human rights activists"! Do you know how many innocent people they have killed mercilessly? And do you know those poor and innocent people got killed by the protesters are actually Tibetans? Are you sure you are calling them "human rights activists"?

The truth is the protesters are a small group of terrorists in Tibet, far from representing the will of the Tibetan people. They are against the Chinese government for some stupid reasons I don't know, by hurting other Tibetans who are innocent and enjoy being a part of China. (Have you ever watched the news about what the protesters do in Tibet in China?)

So if misunderstanding cleared now, why don't you tell me what you would do if your were the Chinese government.

I have been a supporter of the idea of socialism and communism (equal opportunity for everyone, the rich helping the poor, doing things for your society etc.) for a long time, but what the Chinese government is doing once again proves that the practice is far from the idea. That is why I agree with the protesters, as it is one of the few ways to really be heard when criticising the way a whole country is run.

What you are doing is waging an unfair war against good international athletes/ambassadors from around the world. Don't you even consider the possibility that this game can reap good results in highlighting the values of democracy that these athletes will represent? And I agree with Rober G that this is an utter ridiculous way to protest. The chinese government has hundreds of embassies, consulates, etc. around the world. I believe there is sufficient avenues for people around the world to express their political contempt of the chinese government but to mar the olympics with politics is utter nonsense! And I'm not even a chinese or even having a chinese friend either.

There is nothing wrong with the Olympics. What is wrong is how it was awarded to China. They should be in good standing in the world and China isn't! I, too, feel Tibet should be helped and put back in it's place and open to the world. China blames everyone else for problems in their country and never take responsiblity for it or try and solve problems. I am 63 years old and have never liked the Chinese government but have nothing against it's citizens or the wonderful people that have come to our country to visit or live. It's the government and that shouldn't be rewarded by giving them the Olympics, especially when you concider the entire idea of the Olympics, allowing the world to compete and it's not suppose to be political. Everything in China becomes political and controlled.

Okay, well first of all, the lighting of the torch is a very symbolic atart to the Olympic games. Getting rid of it would be like getting rid of the song that ice cream trucks have to lure in children. Without it people wouldn't know when the excitment and anticipation begins. Help FREE TIBET!!!! is what i have to say. How is getting rid of the torch going to help. Where's the U.N. at this time?!? The lighting of the torch signifies the gift of light from the sun that (the) God(s) have given us. The torch shouldn't be taken away from the games, but the people of Tibet should be helped.

Trying to snuff out the Olympic torch is a ridiculous way to protest the country that is hosting the games. If you want to protest against China then protest against China, not the Olympic games. Thousands of atheletes have worked hard most of their lives in order to compete and be the best at what they do. Why would you want to want to mar that because of how you feel about a countries' government and its policies. It is the Chinese government and not all of its people that have propegated the issues with Tibet. It seems lately that people have no problem with punishing the innocent to further their views or beliefs which is what the Chinese government is doing so why would you choose to be just like them?
