I wanted to add a thread of discussion to this campaign.  As we discuss the prospect of a Buffy film many people are hitting a point of contention because there exists a comic book that has continued the plot into season 8 and I think there is an Angel book as well.  I just wanted to get an idea of what these things are and how people feel about them.  In my mind I think they could be used as ideas for possible plot directions.  Fans of the comics seem to disagree with me.  All I know is I was a die hard Buffy fan but I would not be interested in a comic book.  I think the live action fans would be perfectly content with a movie taking off from the television plot conclusions.  The comic book fans could view their world as the real reality.  It would be like a parallel universe theory.

i hate the idea of them continuing buffy in a comic...joss whedon and the cast would have a huge fan base around them bc who cares about the comics...i miss the show!

I at first did not have an interest in the comic books. but after watching buffy and angel for so long you learn to read them as though you are watching an episode. you dont hear your own voice in you head you hear xander, willow angel... .etc. i can see why season 8 is in comic form. the special effects wouldve cost a fortune. but yeah my point is i would LOVE for there to be a movie but there probably wont be so I stick with the comics for now and wait

I remember that her husband said she wouldn't do a movie a few years back. Since when does he talk for Sarah????????????? I think he is afraid that his wife will be admired and he would be lost. ITHINK THAT SARAH SHOUL DO THE **** MOVIE!!!!!!!!!!!

I have no intrest in the comic books because they wont be the same. I wont to be able to see the movements that take place and in a comic book theres really no way. Movies would be so much better and u can really see whats going on and feel what they are feeling. With a comic book theres no way of connecting they way u can with a movie.

sarah michelle gellar should just do the movie because she is already known as buffy and she cant change that and i dont understand why she would want to change that because buffy is a heroic character, with personality and i think any actor would want to be known as buffy!

I read the comics and i got bored of them ... i want a freaking movie!

i havnt read any of the comics,,i dnt knw where to find them?,,even if i did im not sure if i wnt too..i truly loved the series and if a movie does eventuate it shud go from the series...
does anyone know wat stores sell the comics??
i live in Australia,,

The comics set up stories Joss never could have pulled off in a TV show, even with his creativity with stunts and effects.
For the record, Buffy DOES NOT sleep with Xander, Giles is no longer Buffy's guiding force, Angel IS human (or something similar to it), and there is the possibility of the slayer powers being stripped from her army. The set up is perfect back story for a movie.
For a Buffy movie to have a good story line, and satisfy hardcore BTVS fans, it needs to be only her (or her and Faith, as the case may be).

yeah i heard that Eliza would do anything for joss....so now shes doing Dollhouse, which i cant wait to see...and didnt Buffy sleep with a chick in season 8?...lol go her..So anyways back to the subject even though i dont think seson 8 on film would happen...i would love to see it!...and im guessing u guys would too.

ok. i just read in an entertainment weekly that Joss has created a show for Faith.

Some of the other cast members have roles in other shows. Alyson Hannigan is on "How i met your mother" James Marsters has a recurring role on "Smallville" and obviously David Boreanez is on "Bones". I don't know if Joss could get them to do a movie based on Buffy and Angel. I heard he tried 2 years ago and they said no. The only cast members that ok'd it was James Marsters (Spike) and Eliza Dushku (Faith).

Did anyone else hear about this?

she never sleeps with xander?whats wrong with u ppl?she was dreaming she was hitting on xander and then his head fell off...it was just a dream...and then amy showed up with the mojo

While die-hard Buffy fans may enjoy the comic book, I found it disappointing. Hopefully the next installation will be better, but at $15.95 it had better be!

Sarah Michelle Gellar's over the Buffy thing. She didn't want to do an 8th season- she didn't want to be remembered as Buffy forever.. so she refused. So, here you have it, a bunch of us buffy nerds being mad. In the comic that Whedon wrote?? Buffy is sleeping with XANDER?! friggin XANDER?!? come on. BLAH. however, i'd rather watch it. a movie probably won't happen unless ms. gellar get's desperate and needs money severely. but I doubt it.

I'm not into the comics either...though I tried cause I love BTVS...Would love a movie to tie everything up. Meanwhile I'll settle for FanFic.

Nope. I really doubt that Joss would 'toss aside' everything he's developed in the comic book. (and WHY on earth would you not be interested in that???) Just as Serenity did not exactly pick up where Firefly left off, I think a Buffy movie would have to move ahead a bit. After all, the actors are no longer the same age as they were when the show ended. (Angel in particular wasn't exactly clinging to his original looks...) I still think the movie SHOULD happen, but if it does it will definitely be on his (Joss) terms, including all of the developments he's made. Also, if you're a Faith fan, you NEED to read season 8! The second arc, penned by Brian K. Vaughn, is very very good. I'm a few issues behind because shipping to Italy is expensive, but if you are a true fan of the Buffyverse you should be up to date on all that is going on... And Jo Chen's covers are amazing. I scoff at anyone who would dismiss ANY project of Joss Whedon, no matter the medium!

Personally I agree with you. All I ask is a movie to tie up all the loose ends, as I'm not really into graphic novels.

OK... to be fair I haven't read all the comments cos the first few made me so mad that I had to just comment myself... that said--all of you should not truely be calling yourself fans.. cos i mean even this James who runs the site-- no offense dude, awesome site btw--hasn't read After The Fall.. Me as a fan, my reaction to Buffy/Angel cannonal commics was when and where baby?? ANYTHING that Joss gives us in this Buffyverse is a gift (like Katie said) so we need to soak it up... truely if the commic does good, it'll be better incentive for them to make it a movie: it shows people still care about this world and these stories.

Also, the idea of the Buffy movie being an "Alternate"/"What-If?" world is absoultly ABSURD!!!! I mean WTF?!?!?! Sorry, it's just Joss says this is what happpens after the show.. I wrote it with my friends whom I see fit and thought it out and approved drawings, but please ignore it and make up your own ****... that's what Fan-fic is for hun, not major motion pictures... but if Serenity/Firefly could do it then BTVS/Angel for sure should be able to.... oh and SPOLIERS--- Angel is human already so ne need for David B. to stay looking too young and sexy... hehe and we saw in "I will always Remember" on Angel what might happen if Buffy found out he was human... it's soooo good... let Joss wrap up After the Fall and the now planned Season 8 and 9 of Buffy (which since Angel aired a year longer than Buffy, would nicely put them in the same time period again) and then see where the charactors and the world is and what is left logically for them to do... my humble and sometimes angry and fiesty opinion...: )

All the disbelievers of the comic book need to read it! Joss and Drew Goddard (among others) were writers of the show - It is the same voice as the tv show just shown in comic book form. I mean people come on - Joss considers the comic books canon - why can't you? Also Joss just stated yesterday at the Paley Fest that "ALOT of stars would have to a line" to make a movie. So I say - just enjoy that we have some new Buffy material coming out to us these days - even if it is in a different medium!

A movie should probably spin off of the end of both shows. Although I love season eight and After the fall, I dont think the plot in the comics would be good for a movie. Since both comics are considered canon the movie would take place in an alternate reality and would give us a "what if...?" fixing things that some people who dont read the comics didnt like about the end of the tv shows.

Buffy and Angel 4ever!!

The Mayor (third season of Buffy) made two points about why the relationship between Angel and Buffy would be painful.
1) As a vampire Angel can only move freely at night.
2) Being a vamire also means that Angel doesn't physically age and is virtually immortal while Buffy will age and die.
These are good points, but there is the possibility of Angel becoming human (on the other hand it could also apply to Spike, or they could just hunt down another one of the demons whose blood made Angel human in an early episode of the Angel series).
There are other things to consider as well.
1)Since a Slayer's abilities come from the essence of demons (Buffy season 7) will Buffy age more slowly (and possibly more gracefully) than and ordinary human? After all, no Slayer has ever lived long enough to die a natural death.
2)Most people seem stuck on the idea that Buffy and Angel can't be together unless Angel is human, but what if Willow (the all powerful witch) can rewrite the gypsy spell without the catch (or simply write her own- something like what happened to Spike maybe)? Willow has changed spells before (usually to make them more powerful) and the spell at the end of the seventh season was completely her own. Perhaps she could even make Angel immune to sunlight.
In any case, I firmly believe that Buffy and Angel belong together.
As for Spike, he needs someone who won't take advantage of his love. When it comes to love Spike has no pride and, I hate to say this, is a complete doormat for the woman of his affection. A woman who can acknowledge that and return it instead of abusing it is the one he should be with.
As far as the Angel series goes I only have a two pet peeves.
1) There was a continuity problem. In the second to last episode of the fourth season of Buffy, Spike kills a werewolf with relative ease. However, in one of the first episodes of the fifth season of Angel, Spike mentions how a werewolf nearly took his arm off (while Angel had just killed one with a silver pen). I know the series is called "Angel", but that sudden (and rather large) gap in ability between the two of them was just absurd.
2) Spike and Anne (who was once called Chantarelle and got bitten by Spike in the second season of Buffy) didn't meet again. I waited the whole season for it only to see Anne in the last episode with Gunn and no Spike.
On the whole, it's fine with me if Angel becomes human and spends the rest of his life with Buffy. I kinda like the idea of them living and dying together. SPIKE FOREVER!!!

to your 2nd point of the set of 3 i believe it was Writer jane espenson said once on an interview on one of the buffy dvds that "when buffy fans notice a small gap in the continuity of the storyline, usually they will create a leap of thought and make it work to make the story fit." like this moment of spike's you mentioned. Yes spike said to angel that when he fought with the werewolf, that you mention occured in season 2, that the actions were different from what actually played out. well of course spike would over hype his battles and say they were more exciting than they actually were. He's a vampire for one. how can spike be scary without a reputation to precede him. Like spikes first real fight with buffy in "School Hard" he mentions hwo he killed two slayers. hes always overhyping. thats why i like him.

also about the spike and anne thing that irks me as well. but that would only be an awkward occasion. i would like to see what happened to anne after the fall.

Ok, first let me say that a movie would be totally AWSOME! However, let me also say that the comic books are incredible. If you are a Buffy and/or Angel fan, you really need to read them. You will be hooked after the first issue, even if you are not particularly interested in comics. Also, the art is very good and the characters in the books look just like the characters on the show. In addition to that, the writing is extremely accurate for each character, so, for example, the things Xander says in the comic are the same types of things Xander would say on the TV show. So if you love the show, you will recognize this as you read the comics and you will have an appreciation for how well-done the comics are. In summary, the comics are well worth reading if you are in any way bummed about the shows having ended.

If Joss decided to go with a new film, I think he would likely be wise to spin off of both the events that ended on the shows and what has happened thus far in the comic books. The books have been a bit scattered, for me, but I think if Joss decided to get behind a film, he would make his own way and preferably not one we can all pre think up for him.

Yes, the idea is awesome but setting it out could be hard. I havent read the buffy comics, however i am getting the angel books, i(t was my preferred show). I think that both groups could hook up to take on the forces of the Senior Partners? From what i understand of buffy all of the scoobies are fighting evil in their own ways, if they were to all recieve intell of some kind and meet up with the angel gang in l.a or.. if the angel gang are defeated, not killed but defeated and the hell on earth is spreading around the globe, the seperate groups each fight in their own areas and come across eachother in the midst of the fight. Any thoughts people?

I totally agree with this thought. I was wondering the same thing. With all the resources the Buffy crew has at its disposal, how can they not be aware of the situation in L.A. with Angel? But who knows? Maybe Joss is planning on having the 2 stories cross paths later on.

i love buffy and would love there to be another season and a movie that would be great. I think that it would be able to be pulled off.

totally agree w/u. much rather see movie than try to find the comics. seeing the gangs from both shows on the big screen would be awesome

Read the comic which is meant to be Season 8 - muchly worthwhile. Anything for a bit of Buffy. Would love to see a Buffy movie especially one that carries forth the "Cookie Dough" speech (yes I am an Angel fan). Don't know whether they could be translated into the Buffy Universe as we know it on TV - wouldn't mind an attempt though...

i agree. i am completely devoted to buffy and angel, they were easily the best TV shows around and nothing has even come close since. But i am not interested in the comics. That is not to say I dont think they would be good, i am sure they probably are. But reading a comic is just not the same as seeing sarah michelle gellar and david boreanaz kicking vampire arse!!!!!!!!! i wish there was going to be a movie! if i was rich i would give joss all the money he needed to make it coz it would definitely rock and all the fans would love it!

the comics had an intrestin twist to them but would not work as a plot divice for the movie the should stay comics or Joss should bring the sows back following the comics
