So do we want to set the bar at, "they do good things even as they break the law"? I am sure that if that were the case you could get a lot of drug dealers to donate money to charity if it would buy them  less prison time. Many people who drink and drive are wonderful people other than that one time they killed a family after drinking a bit too much. where do we want to set the line? I know that many politician have done wonderful work, and some have done little but line their pockets. We have these laws for a reason, either enforce them, or repeal them.
