I'll sign your petition, there is a case here in Canada right now that parallels Natalee's and the reaction between Aruba and Thailand I think does say something. In January a Canadian man was murdered by an off duty policeman in Thailand. There was the same fear that he wouldn't be prosecuted because he is being investigated by the police. But in his case two Thais came forward on their own to say that the man's girlfriend's version of events was true -- they saw the policeman murder the Canadain. There were also demonstrations by Thais on this case. Thai's demonstrated I forget exactly but within 24 to 48 hours later demanding that the Thai police arrest the Thai policeman who allegedly committed the murder. The demonstration and the public coming forward of the two witnesses happened virtually at the same time and the Thai policeman was arrested by the Thai police force. I'm sure the man's parents and other relatives don't think much of Thailand, but one thing sticks in my head. Canadian television interviewed some of the protestors just after the murder occurred in January. I don't have the exact quotes but they went something like this. "Sometimes our justice system is corrupt and we don't want things like this happening in our country. We want to see this man (the Canadian victim) get justice and let his family know that we care about their loss." In Aruba the people fighting to get Natalee justice are mostly Americans. In Thailand the people who are pushing to get the Canadian tourist justice are Thai. Thailand doesn't have to care about the affect a boycott by Canadians would have on their tourist industry. We might make up maybe two or three percent of their tourists, we could all boycott Thailand and I doubt it would make any real difference or even be noticed. So they didn't have to do what they did because it might adversely affect their tourist industry, they did it because they wanted to.
