When I first discovered DAB, Planet Rock was always the station that I tuned into. Just the best music, good entertaining DJs, news and brilliant articles / interviews. If you let Planet Rock go you'll be removing a unique choice of station that just is not available anywhere, leaving many dissapointed listeners. If I had the money I'd buy the station but I'm not that wealthy. Rather than look at the balance sheet, why not think about a more robust marketing programme and tie in with record labels/music retailers and other digital businesses that can help to boost your advertising revenue?? Look, good luck with the project but don't let a **** good thing die.
The only reason I got a DAB radio was to hear Planet Rock.If Planet Rock closes, what is the point of having a DAB because all the other radio stations are crap, its as simple as that.Planet Rock is the greatest thing ever to happen to radio because it plays the greatest music by far.I have heard rock radio in America & some of it is good but none of what I have heard there is a patch on Planet Rock mainly because they tend to ignore British bands unless they are called Led Zep.If I had the money I would buy it without hesitation so lets hope I win the lottery this week!Planet Rock has to survive for all our sakes.
Mark Jude Hornchurch Essex
Like many other I think that the closing of Planet Rock sends a terrible message to the world - that we do not know how to ROCK!!!!!!
Lets hope that the powers that be realise music is not all about Duffy, Adele, Amy etc and remember that Rock is mighty.
Seems I'm not the only one who bought their DAB radio to pick up Planet Rock. I now have a DAB tuner for the hi-fi, a DAB radio for the bedside and one in the kitchen (which is on Planet Rock as I write - Argent / Hold Your Head Up.....).As one of the jingles said, this is the soundtrack to life for many of us and not just people of a certain age. (OK, I'm 53 and love my seventies rock - who else plays Bells of Berlin by Lone Star?). It would be a crying shame to lose a station that means so much; Radio 1 just doesn't interest me, R2 seems to be R1 from a few years ago, R3 can be obscure, R4 is great if you want war and/or politics, I don't follow sport much so R5 is never on, local radio is cr** and most of the alternatives (available in UK anyway) are VERY poor. Incidently, I love jazz (very hard to find) and metal (Bruce Dickinson on R6 seems to have disappeared). HELP! I have an extensive collection of CDs and vinyl so I can play anything at any time, BUT, the beauty of a good radio station, for me anyway, is the spontaneity of hearing a track you'd almost forgotten, along with a bunch of favourites together with the banter of Alice or the worst jokes in the world from Rick W! I could go on and on.........If there's any justice around Planet Rock will survive: if you read this, add your comments please and maybe we can do something good in this increasingly bland, 'product' driven world. Dave R, Sussex.
IF PLANET ROCK GOES,
I DUMP THE DAB!!!
Planet Rock potentially closing is literally one of the saddest things I have ever heard in broadcasting !!!!
IT SIMPLY MUST BE SAVED !!!!!!!!!! It's one of the last bastions of defence we have against the production line of shite we have in Pop Idol, X Factor etc. that seems to pollute the airways on most other stations.
I play Planet Rock as loud as possible whenever the opportunity arises - It is quite simply the best radio has to offer in music and entertainment (especially Rick Wakeman on Saturdays ! - one of the highlights of the week !!)
Come on Ozzy, Mick, Gary, Slash etc. etc. etc. Do something to help us - YOUR FANS !!!
Steve C.
Dab was invented for Planet Rock its the only reason i bought 2 Dab radios and one is the exellent Pure Highway for the car.I listen to the station when ever possible, so come on all you rich rockstars you cant let this radio history die.If i won the lottery today it would be the first thing to do,Save Planet Rock.
Last of all; Shame on you GCAP Or is that G Crap as i will call it if it happens.
Planet Rock MUST be SAVED! It is simply the best radio station on the air waves, digital AND analogue included.
It gives an opportunity to listen to great music that is simply not played on other stations.
It would be a cultural loss to this country if Planet Rock is allowed to go the way of the Dinosaurs.
Planet Rock must be saved, it is quite simply the best radio station around, Gcap doesn't deserve to be associated with such a great radio station, all they want is to have the likes of crapital radio, so lets hopefully find a buyer who is passionate about real music and not just after a quick buck.
Please! Keep Planet Rock in orbit(good line or what?)
No, but seriously-WAY too many good stations have already been closed within the last year-Capital Disney, Core, theJazz, Capital Life, BFBS Radio, so we CANNOT allow another great specialist staion close! SAVE PLANET ROCK!
There is already plenty of manufactured dross on the radio. The biggest selling music mag’s are the likes of Classic Rock, which means there is a market on the radio for rock music, perhaps the station just needs to be marketed better. Many people I know, never know of the station, when I told them about it have purchased DAB radio & are now full time listeners.
Classic music great station
WAKING UP TO ALICE COOPER IN THE MORNING.
WHO COULD ASK FOR MORE!!
Planet Rock - what digital radios were designed for!
Who needs a caffeine fix when you've got Planet Rock!
Come on all you rockers - don't let it die!
PR's future just has to be protected.
It does EXACTLY what it says on the tin and, let's face it, this many people (and more) can't be wrong.
The only reason for owning multiple DAB radios and the only music channel I ever listen to on Sky, Planet Rock is simply brilliant. Doing the dishes to crap like Radio 1 or Virgin fills me with horror. Save it now!
Please save my Pure Marshall DAB from the scrapheap and give us an alternative to modern manufactured dross!!!
The only alternative to the non-stop teen music that every other station in the UK offers. This station has thousands of dedicated listeners who's musical taste and preferences are just as important as those who listen to Classic FM, a station that is not under threat!
Attention potential buyers!!! Like many others I've bought a second DAB solely to listen to Planet Rock whilst at work. Just because I'm in my 40s doesn't mean I've no money to spend so wake up advertisers - there are more of us "baby boomers" than any other age group out there, and we don't all listen to Capital Radio either, so buy Planet Rock now!!
Independent radio needs its diversity and stations that appeal to (often large) niche tastes and not a dozen identical stations fighting each other over the middle of the road.
So we need the reggae stations, the folk stations and the jazz and classical stations and we need Planet Rock too!
Considering that Planet Rock is the only Radio station that plays a variety of hard rock tracks and has exclusive interviews why don't well known and respected musicians create a consortium to purchase the radio station. Over the years planet rock has continued to keep hard rock music alive, passing it down to the younger generations as well as giving famous and talented musicians the opportunity to keep there career alive by allowing them to have a voice that is heard by millions.
rockka he say; high time corporate management listen to the voice of the people! theres only one planet and thats this amazing world of ours and hey guess what its PLANET ROCK - OK. digital radio RIGHT, WILL SURVIVE !!! aint goin nowhere 4 sure.coz we the people say so.ive text all me mates with tales of wot 2 do. hope the vibe kicks in,i had feed back from three so far [mal gav sue) do your stuff guys.peace n love to all the proper rockers out there.and hey you ivory tower cats you will be surprised. cya....
not since i heard fluff on radio 1.play kashmir with headphones on have i heard anything remotely as wonderfully amazing as planet rock. LONG LIVE PLANET ROCK.
Planet rock is excellent and I often listen to it. I particularly like Rick Wakeman's show. It is the only radio station of its type and must be kept going.
I really hope a new buyer is able to save the station. Keep on rocking !!
We listen to Planet Rock every evening and weekend. It's part of our life. There isn't anything like it. It has to be saved. David and Jackie
finally a decent rock station hits the air and some woman who quite clearly has no concept of what great music sounds like and potential fan base desides to shut it down to make her name.well she has made a name for herself and its not very complimentary .think it rhymes with cold bunt.
planet rock is the only station to play the kind of music that represents my life over 35 years please keep planet rock on air. LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!
GOD GAVE ROCK AND ROLL TO YOU, TO US HE GAVE PLANET ROCK!!!
Planet rock is the only reason I've bought 4 DAB radios, If it goes I'll be left with 4 junk boxes.
As the words from Neil Young's Hey hey my my (into the black) go........HEY HEY MY MY...ROCK AND ROLL CAN NEVER DIE.....so lets not let Planet Rock go.
Come on all you rock stars put your money where your mouth is, if I had the money I would!!
