SONY`S DIGITAL STATION OF THE YEAR!!!!!!!!
why the bloody hell cant SONY buy PLANET ROCK?
or ALICE COOPER,RICK, TONY IOMI,GARY MOORE,GILLAN ,FISH and all the bands that have been played on this FANTASTIC STATION,all get together and buy PLANET ROCK? £2MILLION,IM SURE THAY COULD BUY IT
Yes, there are people out there who could buy this station from the "suits" - but you are all missing the point. Why should they ? Why should we ? If G Cap Media want to sell for 2 million - on the back of the people who actually make it what it is - or they will close it, let them. Tell G Cap Media to F--- Off. The medium works, the genre works, the listeners are there, the loyalty is there. For less money a new station can be created - and without the stupid adverts that are now being foisted. Bannatyne ??? The majority of listeners are of an age where they have either made it financially or they had and are now broke. We do not need some wiseguy adverts 'telling' us how to do it !!. Adverts are needed with any commercial station but lets get real about the type that are appropriate. But GCap Media are just clutching at straws here, Comments please. Tony
Bought a DAB Radio a couple of months ago and it's on virtually 24 hours a day listening to Planet Rock. I have stopped watching TV. When I am in the house I am on my PC playing WoW listening to Planet Rock!!!
I raved on about it so much a Swedish friend now also tunes in regularly to listen while we both play WoW!!!
Will be a sad day should a buyer not be found in time!
the greatest radio station ever to grace the airwaves cant be allowed to close, rock music has lasted through all kinds of new fads of music throughout the years. where else can you turn on the radio and hear ac/dc and led zep, rush and black sabbath at any time of the day. keep this station alive.
I struggle to understand gCAP's short sighted view of DAB in general and their intention to close Planet Rock. Classic Rock music has seen a huge resurgance over the past few years with lots of young kids also taking an interest in Rock. I mean just look how many of then are taking up guitar and learning stuff from the likes of ACDC. In my view it would be a real shame if this station could not be saved as I believe it could have a highly commercially viable future. Just consider how many classic Rock Stations there are in the USA and the UK the home of some of the greatest groups and musicians in the world, has only one brilliant station dedicated to this fantastic genre, and thats under threat. It just must be saved!!
I've only just bought a sodding dab radio so I could listen to Planet Rock. Every time I put it on, there's always a track I haven't heard for ages, so it's not all formulaic. Incidentally, it's costing me a fortune buying cds of albums I used to have - but I don't mind.
Keep this channel, please.
I am so passionate about Planet Rock, that I have purchased a ‘Pure Highway’ DAB radio for the car. I can now continue to listen to Alice Cooper in the car on the way to work, and Nicky Horne/Rick Wakeman on the way home. Somebody out there Please SAVE THE PLANET !
come on alice get your hand in your pocket and buy planet rock, its either that or your on the dole and i just cant see alice cooper standing in the dole office waiting to sign on, i also agree with j churchill who says he dont watch tv anymore i dont switch it on anymore not since i found planet rock. lenny in sunny stoke on trent.
I cant understand this utter rubbish they plan to close this great station. i dont watch tv much since planet rock has been on air. its the only thing thats good in media at the moment.why dont some of the great artists out there buy it!! J.Churchill
Radio is in a parlous enough state without closing the good successful stations too. Planet Rock and The Jazz are two stations we can ill afford to lose.
I feel sick to my stomach that a such a good radio station has been sold out by the top brass due to profit margins. Where the hell do they get their statistics. SEASAME STREET!!!!!
My 2 yr old grandson can count better than they can and you can see that just by the amount of people who are petitioning against it they its the wrong move to make.
If this comes about I will definately not be tuning in anymore radio stations.
PLANET ROCK RULES!!!!!
Please save Planet Rock... Saturday mornings wouldn't be the same without Rick Wakeman. And where else could you hear almost an hour of Fish live? Brilliant station keeping real music alive - it must not die.
Please, dont let Planet Rock die. It's the only decent rock station that we have, to loose it would be terrible. Get your friend to sign the petition, and listen to the Station!
Some of you will be old enough to remember the empty void that was radio back in the 1960's when the then Labour Government forced the radio pirates off the air. To see it happen again to a legal station in the 21st century will be a crime!
Isn`t it sad, that nowdays, everything is about profit. "Not making enough money ? Close it !" We ( the listener ) have now got a station dedicated to playing "our" type of music. Is it not enough that sufficient money is made to pay the bills ? Come on GCAP, for once in your life do something for the people you purport to want to entertain, not the shareholders and financiers. Why the hell are most things today, about money ?
you said above: The part of the campaign to PLEDGE funds to enable a listener-backed buy-out of Planet Rock has now closed. The idea was launched on the Planet Rock forum on 22nd Feb (following many comments from people suggesting such a buy-out), but after 10 days, unfortunately, only 117 people came forward to pledge funds, which, as of last night, totalled a mere £22,270 (and we really needed something like £2 million !!)" I must have been asleep, cos I dont remember seeing this pledge site! & I'm sure I'm not alone.. It needed more publicity not to be shut down. so what's the latest news?
Marc, We closed the PLEDGE campaign, simply because after 10 days we only had 117 people contributing a mere £22,000 to the cause. If we'd kept it going another 3 weeks, up to 28th March, then we'd have probably generated no more than about £60,000 - which is nowhere near enough.
We promoted the PLEDGE campaign both via the Planet Rock forum, and here....so there was plenty of chances for people to get involved....but not enough wanted to....so, there seemed little point wasting time and energy on something that wouldn't help. Instead, we've spent the time generating links on rock bands and musicians websites...and this is working well. Hopefully, a buyer will be found....! rgds, Tim O.
Please save Planet Rock so that Guy Pratt may continue to have an acceptable outlet for his bad craziness. On a personal note: the music on Planet Rock is super chouette!
lets hope the fat cats at GCAP media come to there senses and smell the coffee, and see what a mistake closing Planet Rock would be. Only one decent station on DAB in uk so they can't close it , breakfast without Alice, mornings would not be the same. WAKE UP FAT CATS PROFIT ISN'T EVERYTHING
It's the only station I listen to!
SAVE PLANET ROCK THERE IS NOTHING BETTER

We have 12 people at work that listen to Planet Rock in our workshop. They all will be very sad & cry lots if the station closes.
We have Planet Rock on our DAB radio at work - thats 12 more people listening to rock music.
