You have to hand it to Kmart...they do have that one up on WalMart and the way the economy is, paying a few dollars more for an item, to be allowed to put it on layaway, is well worth it...Sam Walton has to be very sad at the way his corporation does some things...when I worked there last Christmas season, I had almost a whole hour of training just on what to do if someone tries to approach me to talk about forming a union...they treat unions like terrorists! It's no wonder, they have 350 part-time employees in one store, with 5 managers, and only have to pay benefits for the 5!
I agree with most of the other responders that without Walmart having a layaway program it will really cut into my christmas shopping this year. I live in a rural area that recently opened a walmart in our area and I know that having layaway would definately benefit our area.
I don't have enough money each week to get very much christmas shopping accomplished. I have 3 kids and don't know how I'm goning to get anything for them. With the layaway program, I was able to get my shopping done every year.
I WAS A DEDICATED WALMART SHOPPER DURING THE HOLIDAYS ESPECIALLY CHRISTMAS BECAUSE OF THE CONVENIENCE OF LOCATION AND THE STORAGE IT GAVE ME WHILE MY PRODUCT WAS ON LAYAWAY. ALLOWING THE LAYAWAY TO RESURFACE WOULD TRULY DEFINE WALMART AS THE ONE STOP STORE, ESPECIALLY THE WAY THE ECONOMY IS TODAY.

With Christmas just around the corner and a new baby on the way. It would really help to put some things in layaway. I feel without it Walmart profits will suffer especially since we are having a financial crisis.
As a single mother of three children, when Walmart announced no more layaway it meant that i culd no longer purchase large expensive items for my children! Bring layaway back. many many people need this to purchase large items! Heck charge a small fee if needed i know i would pay it if i could layaway my christmas gifts
I USE TO LAYAWAY FOR HOUSEHOLD ITEMS SCHOOL CLOTHING AND CHRISTMAS, THAT WAS THE ONLY WAY I COULD AFFORD THE ITEMS I NEEDED, I REALLY LOVED SHOPPING AT WALMART, BUT NOW DUE TO BUDGET I SHOP AT OTHER STORES WHO OFFER LAYAWAY. I'M NOT SURE EXACTLY WHY THE WALMART CORP. DID AWAY WITH THEIR LAYAWAY BUT IT WOULD BE NICE TO COME UP WITH A FAVORABLE, AND FAIR PLAN FOR WALMARTS SHOPPERS, AND THE WALMART STORES.
Walmart claims people use the gift cards more .And the layaway department was losing money.I use to work for Wally World and since Mr.Sam died his children have become greedy. The values Mr.Sam instilled are gone. The mighty dollar counts now.Even the employees don't get consideration anymore. Most of the good workers quit because the poor ones rule. The average person has to buy things outright or cannot afford to get it.Others shop at other stores who do have a layaway. Im a young mother and wife... we just bought iur own house and we scrap for money... walmart is where we shop to SAVE money!!! and It would have really made this christmas great for my little boy and my husband if we could have put things on layaway and get them out before christmas... so please think about bringing it back!!!!!!
I have never used layaway but i think it is a great thing for people who need to use it. Just also wanted to know do you pay interest or a fee when you put an item on layaway?

I think if walmart really wants to help the little guy they will bring back Layaway. I have used it often for holidays.
