Description:

To Robert A DuPuy, President and Chief Operating Officer, Major League Baseball (MLB) We, the undersigned, are outraged over MLB's attempt to apply fees to fantasy game companies who already paying over $1.5 billion. MLB attorneys are arguing that online fantasy baseball companies cannot operate without paying them a license fee to compensate players for the use of their names. What this would mean is that we fantasy players may have to ante up. Fantasy games draw fans beyond their team loyalty building a more active fan and a stronger relationship which is just what baseball needs. If fans are required to pay to play, participants will be reduced from millions to a fraction of the total. WHAT ARE THEY THINKING? This could be the beginning of other Major Leagues to take the same actions. Stop this ridiculous attempt by MLB by signing this petition to drop this insanity.

Forum Discussion for New Fees threaten Fantasy Leagues

Sounds like typical bureaucratic think to me. Have lots of players + get a little $ from each = LOTS of $$$. Just like raising taxes, it WILL have an effect on the users, less will play. It's simple economics. But since MLB will end up with more direct $ as a result, and are most likely unable to even measure the negative effects of turning off the fans, etc., it will come across as making sense to them.
