How many more women must die, and how many more suffer at the hands of spouses, partners and other abusers while the police service turns a blind eye or blatantly ignores the issues?

When a woman in need calls the police, they should be treated with respect, and their situation treated with seriousness and handled with authoritative swiftness. Instead some women get lame excuses like 'no vehicles' and others get their calls abruptly cut off. Why is it only when someone gets murdered the police springs into action and suddenly all vehicles become available? Where is the police service when it comes to crime prevention in domestic disputes? Why is it that some women must lose their lives before the police take notice of their situation?

This is an issue of security and we must call on the Minister of National Security to partner with the Ministries responsible for Gender affairs and Social Development to make our country safer for all women at risk of domestic violence.

If you believe the police service are not doing their job to keep women safe from physical and verbal abuse by responding to all calls as dictated by the Domestic Violence Act of Trinidad and Tobago, please sign this petition.
