Description:

"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives." For over one-third of a century, those words have introduced and underscored one of daytime drama's rare mainstays. NBC's "Days of our Lives," which turned 42 this past November, first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. Today, it remains a consistent favorite among viewers of daytime television serials. On January 19th NBC announced that Days of Our Lives is unlikely to continue past 2009.

In its 42 years, "Days of our Lives" has garnered numerous Emmy Awards and nominations, as well as multiple "Soap Opera Digest" and "People's Choice" Awards. The show's success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling - supported by a diverse ensemble of performers - and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. From demonic possessions and serial killers to genre traditions such as baby switches, amnesia and classic love triangles, "Days of our Lives" remains a perennial favorite among viewers of all ages.

"Days of our Lives" is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Hortons and Bradys, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. Original cast member Frances Reid continues to star as Alice Horton.

"Days of our Lives" is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producer Ken Corday is following in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created "Days of our Lives" and helmed the series for many years. Ed Scott is also executive producer. Hogan Sheffer is the headwriter."

Forum Discussion for Save Days of Our Lives from being canceled

I don't want Days to be canelled as I have been watching this show for over 20 years, however, It won't matter to me if the show gets rid of John and Malena. They are the reason that I watch. If days really gets rid of them, they will be getting rid of me and a lot of other viewers as well. The powers to be don't get it, they think they need to redo the show and bring on the young kids and write for a younger audience. The problem is, they will loose the long time viewers that have been watching the show. The writers are the real problem. They should be able to be creative and write for our long time characters such as John and Marlena, Bo and Hope and Steve and Kayla. IT will be sad to see days go. As far as I am concerned it might as well get cancelled if they fire Drake and Deidra. The next to go will probably be Bo and Hope. They should be getting rid of Stephanie, Melanie, Nick, Daniel and even Nick. Lucas can go as well now that EJ has replaced him in Sami's life. The best storyline lately was the Colleen story when all our veteran actors/actresses got to act together. The writers have missed a big opportunity with Drake and his long time friends by dismissing any scenes. Why haven't shown more Bo and John, or John and Hope, or John and Caroline, John and Steve. They could have and should have written these scenes in. They were all once close and for them all to just Give up on him is ridiculous. Get real Ken, save the vets and get new witers.

I HAVE BEEN WATCHING DAYS FOR 20+ YEARS AND I WILL PROBABLY CRY AND GO THROUGH WITHDRWALS I LOVE THIS SHOW. IT HAS A BRIGHT FUTURE IF THE STORIES ARE TOLD RIGHT BECAUSE THE ACTORS AND ACTRESSES ARE WONDERFUL AND THE WRITERS DO A GREAT JOB. SO THERE SHOULD BE NO REASON TO GET RID OF THE SHOW. I WANT TO THANK ALL THE PEOPLE WHO WORK ON THE SET AND BEHIND THE SCENES THEY'RE WONDERFUL.

i am almost 60 and i use to skip school to watch days, it is my favorite show.

PLEASE KEEP DAYS OF OUR LIVES ON! They are like part of the family! i have been watching since i was a child, i am now 52 years old, taking blondie and john of is insane. keeping some of the new blood is a better choice. john and marlena are coming back right? nicky should have been able to have her baby, she deserves some happiness. don,t take days away from us, the world is turning upside dpwn , we need days for some comfort.

I have been watching Days since I was 15 years old and I'm 48 now. It would be extremely sad to cancel this soap. I record it every day and when I get home the first thing that I do is watch it. It would break my heart to never be able to see my favorite show ever again. Please don't cancel the show that I absolutely love so much. I hope one day to actually get to meet some of the stars of Days one day if I'm lucky. But please do not cancel Days of our Lives.
Sincerely a fan of the show,
