"Like sands through the hourglass, so are the Days of our Lives." For over one-third of a century, those words have introduced and underscored one of daytime drama's rare mainstays. NBC's "Days of our Lives," which turned 42 this past November, first premiered as a half-hour drama in 1965 and expanded to an hour 10 years later. Today, it remains a consistent favorite among viewers of daytime television serials. On January 19th NBC announced that Days of Our Lives is unlikely to continue past 2009.

In its 42 years, "Days of our Lives" has garnered numerous Emmy Awards and nominations, as well as multiple "Soap Opera Digest" and "People's Choice" Awards. The show's success derives from its consistent commitment to excellence in writing and storytelling - supported by a diverse ensemble of performers - and an uncanny knack for anticipating viewer interests. From demonic possessions and serial killers to genre traditions such as baby switches, amnesia and classic love triangles, "Days of our Lives" remains a perennial favorite among viewers of all ages.

"Days of our Lives" is set in the fictitious Midwestern town of Salem. The core families are the Hortons and Bradys, and the multi-layered storylines involve elements of romance, adventure, mystery, comedy and drama. Original cast member Frances Reid continues to star as Alice Horton.

"Days of our Lives" is produced by Corday Productions Inc. in association with Sony Pictures Television. Executive producer Ken Corday is following in the tradition of his parents, Betty and Ted Corday, who co-created "Days of our Lives" and helmed the series for many years. Ed Scott is also executive producer. Hogan Sheffer is the headwriter."

I love Days.
I must admit I hate Kate,why does she get away with murder and everyone forgets about her horrible behavior.

OMG First they take of Passions and now they are thinking of taking Days. NO Mam......... That can not happen. I have been watching this soap for 28 years. They can't take Days away I will not take this..... we need to do something. tlhammack

It would be such a shame to let Days go. I have watched it since I was five and Julie was a troubled girl. I love the show but hate a lot of the stories on right now. I love EJ & Sami, Phillip & Morgan, Lucas & Chloe, Tony & Anna, John & Marlena, and Nichole needs a worthy adversary, she's a fantastic charactor. I can't stand Chelsea, Dan, Kate, Melanie, Trent and the Kayla Steve aspect is weak. I also dislike how they write Bo Brady Holier than thou. Bring back the original Brady and let Nichole school him. Write Allison Sweeny's pregnancy into the show and ofcorse it's EJ's. Make EJ and Sami the future John and Marlena suercouple. For goodness sake let Brian Datillo be funny insteas of a whiner. He's fantastic when he does interviews. I love the new John because he's funny, EJ's funny. Give Phillip more airtime, he could be a serious leading man. Stop making us widh for a wekk of hot guys on screen give us EJ, Phillip, Lucas!!!!

I have watched Days since the beginning. Please don't take it off the air! My son who turned 40 this year still tapes it and watches it when he gets home from work.

I have been watching Days for as long as I can remember. There is no other soap like it, Days is the BEST!!! The show is like family,Please do not take it off the air!!!!!!

I have watched Days since it started. It is the only soap I watch. Alfter 42 years it would be a shame to cancel it. Please do not take Days off the air. A VERY LOUD NO FROM ME,DO NOT TAKE IT OFF THE AIR

I STARTED WATCHING DAYS IN 1967 SO THE SHOW IS ALMOST LIKE FAMILY TO ME. TAKING IT OFF THE AIR WOULD BE A SAD DAY FOR NBC. POLLS SHOW MOST PEOPLE WATCHING SOAPS ARE LOYAL TO THEIR STORY AND WOULD NEVER CHANGE TO ANOTHER SHOW. SO I VOTE A VERY LOUD NO. DO NOT TAKE DAYS OFF THE DAILT LINE-UP ON NBC.

I have been watching Days od our lives for 27 years.
Its the ONLY day time show i watch,I sop what i am doing and watch days.I would be so heart broken if days went off

Please keep 'Days' on the air!! I loved Santa Barabra and Another World, which were BOTH cancelled. Please keep the show on the air. It has great fans who love the show. Pretty, pretty please....

I am almost 28 years old and have watched Days all my life. My grandma as well as both of my parents were fans. I record it everyday and stay up super late just to get my fix. I am addicted so we have to keep it around. I love Bo and Hope and I am desperately waiting for John and Marlena to find their way back to each other. I know that if they would stop dragging their feet, E.J. and Sami could heat up the screen.
